EQUILIBRIO - UMBILICO
Laura Lizama Palacios
A speculation on comfort, closeness, and urban isolation.Based on Harlow's experiments on mother-child bonding in rhesus monkeys (1958), the work negotiates closeness as a physical need and social structure. The urban transformation of Potsdamer Straße serves as a spatial context for isolation, sex work, and substitute intimacies. Through the spatial positioning of the subject in relation to the Bilancia - a scale-like, usable structure - weighing becomes an experienceable physical process. Materiality and use refer to comfort objects as structural substitutes for bonding in a culture where closeness is visible but permanently unstable.
