The Third Place / Contemporary Paintings
The Third Place
‘I was walking around and talking to her on the phone. It’s like we were walking together’. Sound, as a medium capable of painting a certain space, is used in this work as a tool to reimagine impressions of displacement as an ongoing, fluid process rather than a finished result. The juxtaposed points of recording clash, creating a journey with no clear destination.
Contemporary Paintings
When crisis vocabulary begins to describe everyday life, the time forcefully splits into usual and historically important. Something quick, reproducible, and banal becomes labored. The attitude shifts toward images created either shortly before the onset of such times or during their reign. Contemporary paintings ask to look more closely at screenshots from a video that captures a party on May 22, 2021.
