Deepfake Diaries
The photo series Deepfake Diaries examines the impact of artificial intelligence on cultures of memory. Its starting point is the video format Deepfake Diaries by Terra X, in which historical figures are brought to life using deepfake technology.The digitally generated face of Rosa Luxemburg encounters its corresponding archival photograph. Through the deepfake, a new form of visual reconstruction emerges: deceptively real, yet always only a replica of the past.
Fiction
A family photograph was cut into equally sized pieces. Individual glances, body postures, and gestures are considered in isolation and begin to tell more than the original photograph could. Hidden dynamics emerge, and one starts to listen to the family members as they tell or withhold their stories.
Through these fragments, the photo series opens a fictional space in which the viewer fills the gaps with their own narratives. Stories drawn from personal memory. A search for narratives that make the gaps in our knowledge bearable.
